This project involved the complete renovation of a 2,800 s.f. apartment on the 31st floor of a condominium tower on Washington Square in Philadelphia. One of the current occupants had combined two units into a contemporary style residence in the early 1990’s. Now newly married, the Owners decided to renovating the apartment to suit their dual needs.

The renovation changed the character of the space, removing metal column covers in the living room and a sinuous glass block master shower enclosure that was a feature along one side of the Entrance Hall. A more defined sequence of unfolding spaces was created without sacrificing the panoramic views that surround this penthouse unit on three sides.

The entrance sequence is highlighted by a curved gallery flanked by columns that define the edge of the Dining Room and a marble floor of polished black marble. The curved wall subtly extends the master bedroom suite to expand closet capacity for the two occupants, as well as guest closets near the entry. A new entrance to the Master Bedroom opens to expansive views of the Delaware River. The doorway is surrounded by new built-in millwork cabinetry used for additional clothing and display. Cabinetry and finishes in the Kitchen and adjoining Den were refurbished to increase functionality and complement new furnishings.
