This project involved the transformation of two unadorned apartments into a highly detailed full-floor residence overlooking Rittenhouse Square. Walls around the previously shared elevator corridor have been selectively removed and reconfigured to create a long Gallery that links the public functions of the apartment with the more private bedrooms.

A recess in the wall across from the elevators has been adorned with a tiled fountain. The Gallery’s arched openings and ornate plaster vaults provide the illusion of height and grand scale even though the ceiling heights are actually fairly low. The Gallery passage is enhanced with highly-patterned marble floors designed by the Architects and fabricated with computer driven water-jet cutting machines. Newly installed 18th century historic details and moldings provide a backdrop to the apartment’s furnishings.
